Monday is proving to be a good day to play Powerball®. Powerball has recorded two consecutive jackpot wins on Monday, so far, this month. A $213.8 million Powerball jackpot was won in Pennsylvania on Monday, August 12. A week later, a ticket in California won a $44.3 million Powerball jackpot in the Monday, Aug. 19 drawing.
In fact, since the game introduced a third weekly drawing on Monday nights in August 2011, 45% of Powerball jackpots have been won on Monday. This year, five of the seven Powerball jackpots have been won on Monday nights:
- Monday, January 1, 2024 - $842.4 million - Michigan
- Monday, May 6, 2024 - $214.9 million - Florida
- Monday, June 10, 2024 - $139.3 million - New Jersey
- Monday, August 12, 2024 - $213.8 million - Pennsylvania
- Monday, August 19, 2024 - $44.3 million - California
And, the only Double Play® ticket to win the $10 million top prize, so far, this year, also happened on a Monday night:
- Monday, June 24 - $10 million Double Play winner - Kentucky
While Monday has proven to be a winning day, it is important to note that players have the same odds in every Powerball and Double Play drawing, regardless of the day of the week or how many tickets are sold for a particular drawing. That’s because the two pools of numbers from which the winning numbers are drawn, remain the same for every drawing. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 69 for white balls and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26.
The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. Powerball® holds the current world record for largest national lottery jackpot at $2.04 billion. Since its first drawing in 1992, the game has helped generate more than $32 billion for good causes supported by U.S. lotteries. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Powerball drawings are also live streamed on Powerball.com.
