Mary Ann Weinhold has been a faithful Missouri Lottery player since sales began in 1986. While the Union resident prefers to play Pick 3, Pick 4 and Show Me Cash, she does enjoy playing both Powerball and Mega Millions Draw Games when jackpots swell past $300 million.
When such a situation happened on March 23 with the $625 million Powerball jackpot, Weinhold purchased her tickets from Heartland Discount Pharmacy, 707 Highway 50, in Union.
“If I’m at Heartland Pharmacy, I’ll ask them to put all my plays on one ticket,” explained Weinhold. “I usually prefer individual tickets, but I’ve known the two men who work there for years, and I don’t want to be a bother to them.”
After spending the evening at a local fundraiser with her son and daughter-in-law, Weinhold returned home late on March 23 and checked her Powerball tickets.
“They dropped me off at home around midnight, and I checked my tickets before bed,” said Weinhold, who matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number on one of her plays.
“I had to look up what that was worth, and I called them on the phone to have them come back over to the house to take a look. You would be surprised how many times you could look at the same numbers and not believe it.”
While nobody matched all five white-ball numbers and the Powerball to win the $625 million jackpot, Weinhold did match enough numbers to win a $50,000 prize. Elated, the winner claimed her prize the following afternoon, where she said she plans to distribute the prize to her three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Weinhold used Quick Pick to select her winning numbers, which were: 24, 25, 52, 60 and 66 with a Powerball number of 5.
