Missouri – A St. Louis man recently made a routine stop at a convenience store to buy some gas and check his Powerball tickets, but the errand ended up being anything but routine.
Alonzo MacDonald said he plays Powerball about once a week. Several days after the April 6 drawing, he decided to check his tickets. He scanned his ticket for the April 6 drawing on a Check-A-Ticket machine at a convenience store, which advised him to claim his prize at a lottery office.
“So then I went to the cashier,” MacDonald explained. “I said I needed to pay for my gas, and I asked her to check my tickets for me. She checked them and turned around with this surprised look on her face. She said, ‘You just won $50,000!’”
MacDonald said a portion of the Powerball prize will go toward pursuing voice acting, a long-time passion of his.
He purchased his winning Powerball ticket from QuikTrip, 10768 W. Florissant Ave., in Ferguson. The winning numbers for the April 6 drawing were 15, 33, 43, 59, 60, and the Powerball was 8. MacDonald matched four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Powerball number, drawn that night.
