Powerball Jackpot to $25 Million

10/8/2009

(Powerball)  Powerball has reached an estimated $25 million jackpot for Saturday night’s draw as the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening.   Four lucky tickets sold in Arizona (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), and Pennsylvania (1) matched all 5 white balls for a $200,000 cash win each .

The jackpot for the Saturday, October 10th drawing will be $25 million with the cash option at $13.4 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 2, 20, 21, 38, 50, and the Powerball was 22. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Sixteen tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000.  Three additional players of that prize level wisely purchased the Power Play and had their prize multiplied by 3 for a $30,000 cash win!  A total of 480,193 players across the nation won more than 3.9 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.

96,810 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 3 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing an animated spinner presents the number.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased $20,637,470 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The lotteries sold $2.56 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2009. That translates into over $743 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 30 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
