$259.9 Million Powerball Jackpot Won in South Carolina8/20/2009There were lots of other big winners Wednesday evening as well. Four tickets in Florida (1), Iowa (1), and Indiana (2) matched all 5 white ball numbers with the Power Play for an incredible $1 million cash win each! This is part of the new game feature that guarantees a 5X multiplier on all match 5 white ball winners that also have the Power Play option pushing the prize to $1 million cash. Thirteen other lucky tickets sold in Arizona (2), Florida (2), Kentucky (1), Minnesota (1), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (2), Wisconsin (3), and West Virginia (1), each won $200,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers! The jackpot for the Saturday, August 22nd drawing will be $20 million with the cash option at $10 million. The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 14, 24, 31, 43, 51, and the Powerball was 27. The Power Play multiplier was 5. A whopping 78 tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Eight additional tickets of that prize level had the Power Play and had the prize multiplied by 5 for a $50,000 cash win! A total of 1,847,677 tickets across the nation won more than $20.1 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game. A total of 263,416 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing an animated spinner presents each multiplier number. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased $75,327,641 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold $2.56 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2009. That translates into over $743 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is now played in 30 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
